Summary of Key Points

This summary provides key points from our privacy notice, but you can find out more details about any of these topics by clicking the link following each key point or by using our table of contents below to find the section you are looking for.

What personal information do we process? If you create an account, we process the information Sign in with Apple gives us (a stable Apple user identifier, and your name and email address where you choose to share them), the profile information you add in the app (display name, profile picture, gender, and date of birth), the cafes you bookmark and the coffee entries you log, and anything you choose to submit such as a cafe suggestion or an email to us. We also process usage analytics — the screens you view, the cafes and buttons you tap, and your searches including the search text, filters, and sort order.

Is my activity linked to me? Yes, once you sign in. Before accounts existed, analytics were tied only to a random identifier the app generates. When you sign in with Apple, that installation is linked to your account and the events it has already sent are attached to your account, so your in-app activity is no longer anonymous to us. See section 6.

What is visible to other people? Your profile picture and display name are public within the app — anyone who can see you in the app can see them. If you opt in to Coffeemate, your age, gender, status line, availability, and coffee-preference summary are also shown to the people you are matched with. See section 4.

Do we process any sensitive personal information? We do not process sensitive personal information as defined by applicable law. We do collect gender and date of birth, which you provide during onboarding.

What about my location and photos? If you grant permission, your location is used on your device to sort cafes by distance and is not sent to our servers. Coffee tracker photos are stored in your own iCloud, which we cannot access, and a synced copy is stored on our image hosting provider so your log follows you to a new device. See section 1.

Do you receive any information from third parties? We receive your Apple user identifier, and your name and email address where you allow it, from Apple when you sign in.

How do you process my information? We process your information to provide, improve, and administer our Services, communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with law. We may also process your information for other purposes with your consent. We process your information only when we have a valid legal reason to do so.

In what situations and with which parties do we share personal information? We share information with the service providers who host our infrastructure, images, and notifications, with other users as described in section 4, and where the law requires it. We do not sell your personal information.

How do we keep your information safe? We have organizational and technical processes and procedures in place to protect your personal information. However, no electronic transmission over the internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise or guarantee that hackers, cybercriminals, or other unauthorized third parties will not be able to defeat our security and improperly collect, access, steal, or modify your information.

What are your rights? Depending on where you are located geographically, the applicable privacy law may mean you have certain rights regarding your personal information, including the right to delete your account and the data attached to it.

How do I exercise my rights? The easiest way to exercise your rights is by contacting us at hello@dakka.app. We will consider and act upon any request in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

1. What information do we collect?

In Short: We collect the account information Apple gives us when you sign in, the profile and coffee information you add in the app, and usage analytics. Once you sign in, those analytics are linked to your account.

Account information (Sign in with Apple). Sign in with Apple is the only way to create an account in Dakka. We do not operate passwords, and we never see your Apple ID password. When you sign in, Apple sends us:

- Your Apple user identifier. A stable identifier that is unique to you and to our developer account. We store it and use it to recognise you on your next sign-in.
- Your email address. Apple lets you choose whether to share your real address or a private relay address (an @privaterelay.appleid.com address that forwards to you). We store whichever one you choose. If you choose "Hide My Email," we never learn your real address.
- Your name. Apple shares your name only on the first authorization, and lets you edit it before it is shared. We store what is sent.

If you have already used the app without an account, signing in also links your existing installation to your new account — see section 6.

Profile information you provide. During onboarding and whenever you edit your profile, we collect:

- Display name. Shown to other users.
- Profile picture. Optional. If you upload one, it is stored by our image hosting provider (Cloudflare Images) and served from a public URL. Your profile picture is publicly viewable — see section 4 before uploading one.
- Gender. Used for the Coffeemate matching described in section 5.
- Date of birth. Used to check that you meet our minimum age and to show your age to people you are matched with. The date itself is kept private to your account and is never shown to other users; only the age calculated from it is shown.

Content you submit.

- Cafe suggestions and corrections. When you suggest a cafe or report incorrect information (for example an amenity that is wrong), we receive what you type — such as the cafe's Instagram handle, the amenity you flagged, and any notes you add.
- Notes and tips. Notes you add about a cafe ("things to know") are stored against your account.
- Reports about other users. If you report someone in connection with Coffeemate, we record who you reported, the category you chose, and any note you add.
- Contact information. If you email us, we receive your email address and the contents of your message.

Your library, synced to your account. So that your data survives a reinstall or a new phone, the following are stored on our servers against your account once you sign in:

- Bookmarks. The cafes you have saved.
- Coffee tracker entries. For each coffee you log: the date and time, the drink, the price you entered, your rating, the cafe or location name, and — where the entry was created with location available — the coordinates of that entry. When you first sign in, entries already stored on your device are uploaded so they are not lost.

Coffee tracker photos. Photos you attach to a coffee log are saved in your own iCloud, in a container that only you and Apple can access; we have no access to it and Apple's handling of it is governed by Apple's privacy policy. So that your log can be restored on another device, a synced copy of the sticker image and the original photo is also uploaded to our image hosting provider (Cloudflare Images) and referenced by your log entry. We request photo library access only when you use that feature. If you would rather not have a synced copy stored, do not attach photos to your logs.

Information stored only on your device.

- Precise location. If you grant location permission, the app uses your coordinates on your device to sort cafes by distance and show your position on the map. Your coordinates are not sent to our servers for this purpose and are not attached to analytics events. You can withdraw this permission at any time in your device settings; the app remains usable without it. Note that if you log a coffee, the location recorded on that entry is synced as described above.

Usage analytics we collect automatically. To understand how the app is used and where to improve it, the app sends usage events to our own servers at https://dakka.app. Each event contains:

- a random device identifier generated by the app on first launch (not your device's advertising ID or hardware ID);
- your account identifier, once you have signed in, which links the event to you;
- a session identifier, which resets after 30 minutes in the background;
- the screen you are on and how long you spent on it;
- the action taken — for example opening a cafe, adding or removing a bookmark, tapping call, website, Instagram, directions, or share, viewing a photo tour, completing onboarding, or submitting a suggestion;
- the cafe involved, where the action relates to a specific listing;
- for searches: the search text you entered, the location and amenity filters you applied, the sort order you chose, and how many results were returned;
- your platform (iOS or Android) and the app version;
- the time the event occurred.

Events are queued on your device and sent in batches, so they may arrive some time after the action itself. Please avoid typing personal information into the search box, as the search text is included in these events.

- Push Notifications. If you allow notifications, our notification provider (OneSignal) assigns your installation a push token so we can send you notifications, including reminders about a coffee chat you have arranged. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.

- Server logs. Like most online services, our servers and hosting providers log technical request data, including IP address, which is used for security and troubleshooting.

Advertising and cross-app tracking. We do not use your device's advertising identifier, we do not embed advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs, and we do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. The tracking described in this notice is our own, within our own Services.

2. How do we process your information?

In Short: We process your information to provide, improve, and administer our Services, communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with law. We may also process your information for other purposes with your consent.

We process your personal information for a variety of reasons, depending on how you interact with our Services, including:

- To deliver the Services. We process your requests so the app can show cafes, maps, photos, and details.

- To create and maintain your account. We use the information Apple sends us to create your account, recognise you when you return, and keep you signed in.

- To show your profile. We use your display name and profile picture to represent you in the app to other users.

- To sync your library. We store your bookmarks and coffee tracker entries so they can be restored on your other devices and after a reinstall.

- To operate Coffeemate. Where you opt in, we use your profile, coffee preferences, and availability to match you with other users and to arrange coffee chats. See section 5.

- To verify your age. We use your date of birth to check that you meet our minimum age requirement and to show your age to people you are matched with.

- To improve the app and understand usage trends. We use the analytics events described above to see which screens, cafes, and features are used, what people search for, and which filters and sort options matter — so we can prioritise what to build and which cafe data to improve. This analysis is normally done in aggregate, but because events are linked to your account we are technically able to view an individual account's activity, and we do so only where necessary to support you, investigate abuse, or debug a problem.

- To produce our cafe rankings. We aggregate cafe_open events across all users to compile the "cafes of the week" leaderboard shown in the app. The leaderboard shows cafes and counts only; it never identifies which users visited or viewed a cafe.

- To maintain and improve our cafe database. We review the cafe suggestions and corrections you submit and use them to add or fix listings.

- To respond to your inquiries and offer support. We use the contact details in your message to reply to you.

- To send push notifications, where you have allowed them, about new cafes, coffee chat reminders, and app updates.

- To keep users safe. We review reports about other users, and may suspend or remove accounts, in order to protect people who meet through our Services.

- To protect our Services. We process technical and request data to keep the Services secure, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot problems.

- To comply with legal obligations, where applicable law requires it.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your information to deliver targeted advertising.

3. When and with whom do we share your personal information?

In Short: We share information with the providers that run our infrastructure, with other users where you have chosen to be visible to them, and where the law requires it. We do not sell your information.

Service providers. We use third parties to operate the Services, and they process information on our behalf and under contract:

- Apple. Provides Sign in with Apple and, where you attach photos to coffee logs, the iCloud storage they are kept in.
- Supabase. Hosts our database, which holds your account, profile, library, and analytics events.
- Cloudflare. Hosts and delivers images, including profile pictures and synced coffee tracker photos.
- Vercel. Hosts our website and API.
- OneSignal. Delivers push notifications where you have enabled them.

Other users. See section 4.

Legal and safety. We may disclose information where we believe in good faith that it is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, respond to a lawful request, enforce our Legal Terms, or protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public.

Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy notice.

Our servers are located in Hong Kong and our service providers may process information in other countries. Where we transfer personal information internationally, we take steps to ensure it is protected in line with this notice.

4. What information is visible to other users?

In Short: Your profile picture and display name are public within the app. Please do not upload anything you are not comfortable being seen.

Profile picture. If you upload a profile picture, it is stored by our image hosting provider and served from a public URL. It is shown to other users of the app, and because the URL is public it can be opened by anyone who has the link. Do not upload a photo that identifies you in a way you are not comfortable with, that shows other people who have not agreed to it, or that contains sensitive information.

Display name. Shown alongside your profile picture. You may use a first name, nickname, or anything else you are comfortable with; it does not need to be your legal name.

Shown only if you opt in to Coffeemate. Your age (calculated from your date of birth — never the date itself), your gender, your one-line status, the times you have said you are available, and a summary of your coffee preferences drawn from your tracker (such as your most-logged drink) are shown to people you are matched with, together with a short sentence explaining why you were matched.

Never shown to other users. Your email address, your Apple user identifier, your date of birth, your bookmarks, your individual coffee log entries and their photos, your location, your search history, and your analytics activity.

You can change your display name, replace or remove your profile picture, and leave Coffeemate at any time in the app. Removing a profile picture stops it being served to other users; copies that other people have already downloaded or saved are outside our control.

5. Coffeemate and in-person coffee chats

In Short: Coffeemate is optional. It matches you with another user for a coffee in a public cafe, and shares parts of your profile with the people you are matched with.

Coffeemate is an opt-in feature. If you do not opt in, none of the information in this section is collected or shared, and you are not shown to other users as a potential match.

What we collect when you opt in. Your answers to the "coffee vibe" questions (such as flavour and rhythm preferences, topics, and lifestyle questions), a one-line status of up to 30 characters, the weekly time slots you are available for, and a summary derived from your coffee tracker (such as your most-logged drink and roast and how many entries you have). The individual entries and their photos are not shared — only the summary.

How matching works. Matching is currently done by hand. A member of our team exports opted-in profiles, pairs people, and imports the result, which means our staff can see the Coffeemate profile information described above. Matching is not automated decision-making with legal or similarly significant effects.

Coffee chats. There is no messaging in Coffeemate. One person sends an invitation that already contains a time and a cafe, and the other accepts or declines. We store who invited whom, the cafe, the time, and the outcome, and — where you have enabled notifications — we send reminders about it.

Safety and reports. Coffeemate leads to meeting a stranger in person. Please use your judgement, meet in the public cafe that was agreed, and tell someone you trust where you are going. If something goes wrong, you can report the other person in the app. We store the report — the chat it relates to, who reported whom, the category chosen, and any note — and review it by hand. A report about you is not shown to you at the time it is made, and we may act on it by limiting or removing your access.

You can leave Coffeemate at any time in the app, which removes your Coffeemate profile and stops you being matched. Records of past coffee chats and of any safety report are retained as described in section 8.

6. Sign in with Apple and how your activity is linked to your account

In Short: Before you sign in, your activity is tied to a random installation identifier. When you sign in, that installation and the activity it has already recorded are linked to your account.

The Dakka app generates a random identifier on first launch and attaches it to the usage events described in section 1. Before accounts existed this was all we had, and it did not identify you.

When you sign in with Apple for the first time on a device, we link that installation identifier to your account, and we attach your account identifier to the rows that installation had already written — its usage events, notes, and membership status. From then on, events sent from that installation carry your account identifier as well. The practical effect is that your in-app activity is no longer anonymous to us: we can see which cafes a given account opened, what it searched for, and which screens it used.

If a device has already been linked to a different account, we do not transfer its data to you — one person's history must not follow a shared or resold phone to the next person who signs in on it.

If you would rather your activity not be linked to you, you can use the app without signing in; the features that need an account (profile, synced library, Coffeemate) will be unavailable.

Your relationship with Apple. Apple's handling of your Apple ID, of Sign in with Apple, and of the iCloud container holding your coffee tracker photos is governed by Apple's own privacy policy, not this one. You can review and revoke the apps using Sign in with Apple in your device settings, under your Apple ID.

7. Do we use cookies and other tracking technologies?

In Short: Our app uses first-party analytics, linked to your account once you sign in. We do not use advertising trackers.

In the app. The Dakka app does not use cookies. It stores a randomly generated device identifier in the app's local storage and includes it with the usage events described in section 1, along with your account identifier once you have signed in. It also stores your session token so you stay signed in between launches. Deleting and reinstalling the app generates a new device identifier and clears any events still waiting to be sent, but it does not delete your account or the data already stored against it — see section 14.

Third-party trackers. Analytics events are sent to our own servers rather than to an advertising network. We do not use your device's advertising identifier, and we do not embed advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs. Our push notification provider (OneSignal) processes a push token on our behalf where you have enabled notifications.

On our website. Our website uses cookies only where necessary to operate the site, such as keeping an editor signed in to our internal tools. Most browsers accept cookies by default and let you remove or reject them in their settings.

8. How long do we keep your information?

In Short: We keep your information for as long as your account exists and for as long as necessary for the purposes set out in this notice, unless a longer period is required by law.

Your account, profile, bookmarks, and coffee tracker entries are kept until you delete your account or ask us to delete them. Deleted coffee tracker entries keep a tombstone record — the entry's content is removed but a marker remains so the deletion also applies on your other devices.

Usage analytics events are retained so we can compare activity over time; we review them periodically and delete or aggregate events we no longer need. Aggregated statistics, such as the cafe leaderboard, do not identify you and may be kept indefinitely. Cafe suggestions and corrections are kept for as long as they remain relevant to our cafe database. Coffee chat records and safety reports are kept while they are needed for safety and dispute-handling purposes, which may be after the account concerned is deleted. Correspondence you send us is kept for as long as needed to handle your request and any follow-up. Coffee tracker photos in your iCloud remain under your control and are governed by your iCloud settings.

9. How do we keep your information safe?

In Short: We aim to protect your personal information through a system of organizational and technical security measures.

We have implemented appropriate and reasonable technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process. We do not handle passwords, because authentication is delegated to Apple. Image uploads use short-lived, single-use upload URLs issued to your account, so that an image can only be attached to the account it was issued to. However, despite our safeguards and efforts to secure your information, no electronic transmission over the Internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise or guarantee that hackers, cybercriminals, or other unauthorized third parties will not be able to defeat our security and improperly collect, access, steal, or modify your information. Although we will do our best to protect your personal information, transmission of personal information to and from our Services is at your own risk. You should only access the Services within a secure environment.

Note that your profile picture is served from a public URL by design, and is not protected by these measures — see section 4.

10. Do we collect information from minors?

In Short: We do not knowingly collect data from or market to children under 18 years of age.

The Services, and in particular Coffeemate, are for adults. We ask for your date of birth during onboarding and do not allow accounts for people under 18. We do not knowingly solicit data from or market to children under 18 years of age. By using the Services, you represent that you are at least 18. If we learn that personal information from users less than 18 years of age has been collected, we will deactivate the account and take reasonable measures to promptly delete such data from our records. If you become aware of any data we may have collected from children under age 18, please contact us at hello@dakka.app.

11. What are your privacy rights?

In Short: You may review, change, or delete your account at any time.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to our processing of it, and to receive a copy of it in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@dakka.app from the address on your account, or contact us from within the app.

If you are located in the EEA or UK and you believe we are unlawfully processing your personal information, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection supervisory authority. You can find their contact details here: https://ec.europa.eu/justice/data-protection/bodies/authorities/index_en.htm.

If you are located in Switzerland, the contact details for the data protection authorities are available here: https://www.edoeb.admin.ch/edoeb/en/home.html.

If you are located in Hong Kong, you may make a data access or correction request under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, and may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data.

Withdrawing your consent: If we are relying on your consent to process your personal information, which may be express and/or implied consent depending on the applicable law, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time. You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us by using the contact details provided in the section "How can you contact us about this notice?" below. However, please note that this will not affect the lawfulness of the processing before its withdrawal, nor when applicable law allows, will it affect the processing of your personal information conducted in reliance on lawful processing grounds other than consent.

Your account: You can edit your display name, profile picture, and profile details in the app at any time, and you can delete your account as described in section 14. You can also revoke Dakka's access to Sign in with Apple in your device settings under your Apple ID; note that this stops future sign-ins but does not by itself delete the data we already hold, so please also ask us to delete your account.

Usage analytics: If you would prefer us not to link usage analytics to you, you can use the app without signing in. If you have already signed in, email us at hello@dakka.app and we will delete the events associated with your account.

Coffeemate: You can leave Coffeemate at any time in the app, which removes your Coffeemate profile and stops further matching.

Location, photos, and notifications: You can grant or withdraw the app's location, photo library, and notification permissions at any time in your device settings. The app continues to work without them, with the related features disabled.

Cookies and similar technologies: Most Web browsers are set to accept cookies by default. If you prefer, you can usually choose to set your browser to remove cookies and to reject cookies. If you choose to remove or reject cookies, this could affect certain features or services of our Services.

If you have questions or comments about your privacy rights, you may email us at hello@dakka.app.

12. Do we make updates to this notice?

In Short: Yes, we will update this notice as necessary to stay compliant with relevant laws.

We may update this privacy notice from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by an updated "Last updated" date and the updated version will be effective as soon as it is accessible. If we make material changes to this privacy notice, we may notify you either by prominently posting a notice of such changes or by directly sending you a notification. We encourage you to review this privacy notice frequently to be informed of how we are protecting your information.

13. How can you contact us about this notice?

If you have questions or comments about this notice, you may email us at hello@dakka.app or by post to:

Articue Tech Limited

Unit B, 12/F, Hang Seng Causeway Bay Building, 28 Yee Wo Street, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong

14. How can you review, update, or delete the data we collect from you?

Based on the applicable laws of your country, you may have the right to request access to the personal information we collect from you, change that information, or delete it.

Reviewing and updating. You can see and edit your display name, profile picture, gender, and date of birth in the app, and you can edit or remove your bookmarks and coffee tracker entries there too. For a copy of everything we hold, email us at hello@dakka.app.

Deleting your account. You can delete your account from within the app, or by emailing us at hello@dakka.app from the address on your account. Deleting your account removes your profile, your profile picture, your bookmarks, your synced coffee tracker entries and their synced photos, your Coffeemate profile, and the analytics events linked to your account. Some records are retained where we are required or permitted to keep them — in particular safety reports and coffee chat records, and backups, which are overwritten on their normal cycle. Photos held in your own iCloud are not deleted by us, because we cannot access them; remove them through your device or iCloud settings.

Deleting the app from your device does not delete your account.
